There's no doubt about it.  If you're going to have a "dace" - then I'm your guy!  Yes, I specialize in fun daces.  At least they spelled my name right!  The photo above was taken so long ago, I don't even remember doing the gig.  The venue no longer exists.  The spelling police must have shut them down.

JIVIN’ JOHNNY’S 10 QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE HIRING A MOBILE DJ:

(Tips by: American DJ Association with DiscJockeys.com and Jivin Johnny Etheredge.)

1. Are we guaranteed a DJ on the day of our event?  A written agreement with your specific terms protects you from unscrupulous operators.  (My customers are always protected with a written contract.  While you are booking me to personally appear at your event, I do maintain contacts with a number of qualified professionals who can pinch-hit for me in the unlikely case that I may be sick or injured on the day of your event.)

2. How many years of experience do you have?  Experience brings knowledge of common problems and situations. Be sure you know exactly who your DJ will be, and that your DJ has experience with your type of event.  (I have over 35 years of experience.  I personally host all of my events.  You are hiring me - not an employee.)

3. May we contact your references?  References are a major part of the entertainment business. This helps clarify the experience and quality of the service.  (You will find links to many references at this site.)

4. Do you network with other professionals and organizations?  An involved business shows a willingness to learn, network, and share ideas.  Networking within the profession reflects a caring attitude and respect.  (I am affiliated with radio station KRVM, DiscJockeys.com, ProDJ.com, WeDJ.com, and alltimefavorites.com).

5. Will you allow requests?  This is your event and your special requests should be welcome. If a song seems inappropriate, a good DJ service will explain the reason(s) and ask, or suggest, an alternative.  (I discuss your music needs with you, and take requests in advance and while your event is underway.)

6. How early will you be there to set up?  An average of 60-90 minutes should be allowed for set up and sound check. There should be no additional charge for this and should be part of the entire service.  (I never charge for set-up or take-down time, and always arrange to be set-up before your event begins.)

7. How will the DJ be dressed?  Proper attire reflects a positive image to your guests. The DJ should be dressed as well or better than your guests.  (I dress in tuxedo for formal events, or as casually as you desire.)

8. Are you insured?  Insurance is a part of any legitimate business. Liability and casualty policies protect yourself, your guests, and the DJ company.  (I carry a $250,000 policy.)

9. Do you use professional gear (equipment)?  Using professional equipment helps insure a reliable service and quality presentation.  (I use only professional gear, and always use a system appropriate to the size of your venue.)

10. Will you provide an emergency back-up system at our event?  Weddings, Mitzvahs, birthdays, and special events are often a once in a lifetime opportunity. A back-up system protects your investment.  (I always bring back-up gear to every event.  In the unlikely event of an equipment failure, I can be back up and in operation within minutes.)
